We are now counting down to the sacred 31 december as the final curtain of year 2009. 2009 has been a rough tough year.. a year of uncertainty as global crisis impact still widely seen in some part of the world (for example, USA where 49 mn people are food insecure, in a country with the highest obessity cases– weird rite?). Although Indonesia has seem quite immune on that… – but lets see.. hope the scandalicious century bank does not turn this positive economic outlook into another direction..

So yeah.. to make it hotter before we reach the turning point, lets do some reality checking on who are the most fascinating people that coloring the newspaper over the last 12 months.. 🙂 Here is some of the list..

PS : Please remember what i meant by “Fascinating” here does not always mean they are the cooler or the most sophisticated celeb/politician, but.. they are the one that when we heard or see bout them, its make our jaws dropped.. of course, not always in a good causes :))

10. Nadya Suleman – Octuplet mom

So far she is one of the most efficient baby-producing machine mom. 8-babies at one single go ! – only the second time in history live octuplets have been born, according to doctors. the babies were delivered by cesarean section in just five minutes by a team of 46 doctors and nurses in four delivery rooms in January 2009. The most worrying things though, and why she was badly beaten by public judgement is the fact that she is a single mom. Paying for 1 baby is already tough enough, but 8 babies and the fact that she already had 6 babies ( so make it 14 children) and she is a single mom, that will be extremely difficult to be financially and physically caring for them! So, no wonders if many people will say : Thats crazy!! And for her craziness, she is honored at 10th place.

9. Susan Boyle – British got talent!

Scottish singing sensation who have wowed million viewers of British Got Talent does not have glamorous physic, nor beauty, and in fact she is 48 years old already. However, her plain appearance on stage does not hinder her powerful beautiful voice… The juxtaposition of the audience’s first impression of her with the standing ovation she received after her performance led to an international media and Internet response. Within nine days of the audition, videos of Boyle — from the show, various interviews, and her 1999 rendition of “Cry Me a River” — had been watched over 100 million times, an online record!!! in November, she released her first album “I dreamed a dream” and shot straight to the top of US chart. its also number 1 best selling album on pre-sales at Amazon!! its also number 1 best debut album in 2009!!! Yay to Susan boyle! You’re awesome! so girl, if susan boyle can , why can’t you try give a shot to pursue your dream? Her awesomeness and i must say, her voice, has brought her to the rank number 9!

8. Heath Ledger – the “Joker”

I was so sad when i found out the news that he passed away.. He was such a great actors that left strong impression on most of his film, when he played as dazzling Cassanova, the gay in Brokeback Mountain, the Patriot, 10 things i hate about u, monster ball, i’m not there. However, his most notably performance was his portrayal of Joker at Dark Knight. His acting blow my mind!! He was super scary, psychopath, adrenaline-addict and just crazzzzyyyy!!! Not much i was very scared of a movie character… not since portrayal of Hannibal Lecter, or Kevin Spacey in movie Se7en… But his way over the top!! So sad that we can not see him in the cinema anymore.. My deep condolences goes to this amazing young actor!!

7. Ahmadinejad – Iran’s president

Mahmoud ahmadinejad is the current president of Iran. He is a controversial figure within Iran and internationally, especially in 2009. His second election in 2009 was widely disputed and caused widespread protest domestically and drew significant international criticism. Major opposition parties has questioned his legitimacy of his presidency..

Not only that, in 2009, Iran revealed that its uranium enrichment hall is a highly fortified underground space that appears too small to house a civilian nuclear program, but large enough to serve for military activities. Iran says it wants to enrich only to make atomic fuel for energy production, but the West fears it could retool its program to churn out fissile warhead material.

Though it was not clear yet which one is the actual intention of Iran, its quite amusing to see in the news the responses made from both Iran and the West.. France said it is childish and US threaten iran for a possible new sanction, but then Iran said, “Whatever dude! ” and continue with their plan.. Anyway.. despite all of his controversy, Ahmadinejad gained popularity in the East as he is an outspoken critic of the US, Israel and UK, especially toward Palestine’s situation.. This itself actually quite fascinating, giving a different view toward whats really happening in Palestine..

Anyway, lets hope that Iran nuke’s controversion will not lead to another new war. Hope there will be peace rather than war.

His controversial figure has brought Ahmadinejad to number 7!

6. Taylor Swift – refresher in the music industry

Taylor swift is a famous American country pop singer, songwriter, guitarist and actress. Multitalented, beautiful and young! Her second album Fearless has topped Billboard200 in 11 non-consecutive weeks! no album has spent more time at no. 1 since 2000! Forbes, ranked Swift 2009’s 69th-most powerful celebrity, earning $18 million.

in 2009, she also compete closely with Beyonce Knowles. On September 13, 2009, during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, singer/rapper Kanye West came on the stage and took the microphone from Swift during her acceptance speech for winning Best Female Video for “You Belong with Me“, saying that Beyoncé’s video for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)“, nominated for the same award, was “one of the best videos of all time”. I think, that was one of the funniest moment on MTV VMA!!

However though, Swift won five 2009 American Music Awards and on December 2, 2009 Swift received too many Grammy Award nominations!!

5. Michael Bloomberg – Billionaire gain more billions

This New York mayor is a billionaire who make billions more while most of our richest man on earth has losing tons of money (e.g. Bill Gates lost US$ 18 Bn but regain to number 1, Warren Buffet lost US$ 25 Bn…. Weepss!! Hmh.. should send them my condolences card!! ). His net worth climbed 28% in the past 12 months because of a revaluation of his financial data outfit, Bloomberg LP. Last July, he bought a 20% stake in the firm he founded in 1982 from cash-strapped Merrill Lynch for $4.5 billion and increased his ownership stake to 88%. Back in the fall he was even richer, worth $20 billion. Cool rite !!

4. Lady Gaga – the storm trends

She is something!! Her weirdeness in fashion is too fascinating to be considered weird, resulting in her setting a new trend! Her orbital galactica hat is soo cute and as a fashion-watchers, i love it! Its really genious! Her shimmering silver-black style and future-look is the hottest item in 2009. Not only that, her album “FAME” has literally contribute to her FAME! She is a mix of David Bowie (oh i love his acting back then in The Prestige as the genious scientist Nikola Tesla), Queen, Michael Jackson and Madonna! Her music is refreshing.. However though, no fame came along without controversy! She is quite controversial as she is a Bi- (or you can call it hermaphrodite)!! hah….

3. Barrack Obama – The US president

Yes, he is the newest nobel laureates of peace! Though some people say it was quite premature and controversial, his intention toward drawing US army from Iraq is quite a breakthrough, also his reaching toward Islam world. Not only that, the tough path ahead to navigate the sinking US economy and the resistance toward changes in some of his proposed plan (e.g. Health care system) does not limit nor reduce his determination toward changes. As his book title “Change we can believe in” , he is a potential change we can believe in? And thus, he is at our number 3!

2. Sarah Palin – Funniest comment ever!

She has gone from virtually unknown to the first female Republican vice president in 2008 election. Not only that, she is one of the best comedian this year!

Though she resigned as the governor of Alaska, she has became… a D-list celebrity? Though unemployed, but she sure keeps people interested! shilling for her memoir and firing off bizarre statements on just about everything!! (no matter how silly it is..)

Perhaps when Sarah Palin confused Iraq with Iran in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, it was just a slip of the tongue and we should back off, however, some of her past statement is just laughable!!

– They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan.” –Sarah Palin, speaking at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Oct. 5, 2008 –> please read the map, sarah!! Please..

– “All of ’em, any of ’em that have been in front of me over all these years.” –Sarah Palin, unable to name a single newspaper or magazine she reads, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008

– “They’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.” –Sarah Palin, getting the vice president’s constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does, interview with NBC affiliate KUSA in Colorado, Oct. 21, 2008

Anyway, im looking forward to Tina’s Fey impersonification of her.. :)) Tina fey, please do that once more!! Please….

1. Michael Jackson – King of the Pop!!

His death was a massive grief for all people in the world. We sure gonna miss MJ!! His dedication, his talent, his humbleness and his amazing voice is something that we will surely gonna miss… Also, he is one of the celebrity who have big care toward environment and humanity… Despite his vertigo, and perhaps some of his controversial life events, he is a kind of person that heal the world, make it better place… for you and for me and the entire human race…
